Our Impact
Caring for Our Corner of Madikwe
Sustainability Woven Into Everything We Do
At Jaci's Private Lodge, sustainability is not a side initiative, it is woven into the way we operate every day. From solar power and water stewardship to community empowerment and wildlife protection, our commitment extends beyond the lodge itself.
We believe true sustainability balances environmental care, community upliftment and meaningful guest participation - ensuring that every stay contributes positively to the landscape, the wildlife and the people who call this region home.
Clean Energy
Powered by the Sun
During daylight hours, Jaci's Private Lodge operates entirely on solar power - including the lodge itself and our entire staff village.
Our solar infrastructure significantly reduces reliance on traditional energy sources and lowers our environmental footprint within the reserve. By harnessing Madikwe's abundant sunshine, we ensure that your stay is supported by clean, renewable energy.

Precious Resources
Water with Purpose
Water is one of our most precious resources. All water used at the lodge is drawn directly from the Marico River and carefully filtered on-site to meet our operational needs while minimizing environmental impact.
The majority of our greywater is treated and repurposed, supported by eco-friendly cleaning products that safely break down bacteria and oils.
In the dry season, treated water helps supply pumped water sources that support wildlife in front of guest suites - meaning that even your shower contributes to sustaining life in the bush. Every drop is carefully considered.
Circular Systems
Our Zero Waste Vision
From glass and paper to tin and organic waste, our full-scale recycling programme ensures that waste is minimized and valuable resources are repurposed wherever possible.
We are committed to reducing single-use plastics, which is why each guest receives a refillable water bottle instead of disposable plastic bottles during their stay.
All organic kitchen waste is processed through our Bokashi system and used to naturally fertilise our gardens and vegetable garden. Any excess is then donated to a nearby farm where we source our pork, creating a circular system that reduces landfill waste while supporting local agriculture.

Farm to Table
Locally Sourced and Sustainably Grown
At Jaci's, sustainability even extends to the kitchen. Our vegetable gardens allow us to grow a portion of our own produce on-site, supplementing ingredients sourced directly from local markets and greengrocers.
Wherever possible, we source ingredients from nearby businesses within a 10km radius - including eggs, blueberries, venison, tilapia and firewood.
By prioritizing local supply chains, we ensure freshness while reducing transport emissions and strengthening the regional economy. Every meal you enjoy contributes to sustaining our community.

Amenities
Luxury Meets Responsibility
Thoughtful Guest Amenities
All guest amenities are crafted by AfriEarth, a local business specializing in 100% natural, chemical-free and biodegradable products.
From plant-based soaps to beautifully infused soap loaves, every item is designed to be gentle on the environment while maintaining the luxury and comfort expected of your stay.

Community First
Local First Employment
The people who make Jaci's special come from the community around us.
We prioritize hiring local staff and sourcing products from nearby suppliers, ensuring that tourism directly benefits the region. This approach not only strengthens the local economy but enriches the guest experience with authentic knowledge, culture and warmth.
Shared Success
The Jaci's Staff Trust
Sustainability is about people as much as it is about the environment.
Through the Jaci's Staff Trust, 27.2% of the business is owned by our dedicated staff members - the majority of whom are from the surrounding community.
Team members who have worked at Jaci's for more than five years have the opportunity to become shareholders, receiving annual dividends through the Trust. This model creates genuine financial empowerment and fosters a team deeply invested in the lodge's long-term success.
When you stay at Jaci's, you are supporting a business where ownership, pride and passion are shared.

Conservation in Action
Protecting Wildlife
Our love for nature extends beyond observation.
We are actively involved in rhino anti-poaching initiatives, helping to protect one of Africa's most endangered species within Madikwe Game Reserve.
Through the Madikwe Guest Conservation Contribution, each guest plays a direct role in safeguarding the reserve's future. Every visit helps protect the wildlife that makes this ecosystem extraordinary.
Building with Purpose
Restoration Over Replacement
Following the flood, our approach to rebuilding Jaci's Private Lodge was guided by one clear principle: restore wherever possible, replace only when necessary.
Rather than stripping the lodge and starting entirely anew, we carefully assessed what could be salvaged, repaired and thoughtfully reintegrated. Existing decking was taken down, sanded and repurposed within the new build. Materials were restored instead of discarded, reducing unnecessary waste and preserving the character of the lodge.
Much of the furniture throughout the lodge was cleaned, repaired and reconditioned (in some cases multiple times) to ensure it could continue its story within the renewed space. This approach significantly reduced the environmental impact of the rebuild while honouring the lodge's history.
