Conservation Success Story

Madikwe Game Reserve is one of South Africa's most remarkable conservation achievements. Established in 1991, the reserve was transformed from former farmland into a thriving ecosystem through Operation Phoenix - the largest wildlife translocation project in the world. Today, Madikwe supports healthy populations of endangered species, including black rhino and African wild dog, while playing a vital role in conservation, research, and community upliftment.

As part of your stay, a Guest Conservation Contribution (GCC) fee is included, which supports the work of the Madikwe Futures Company - a non-profit organisation dedicated to maintaining the reserve, funding anti-poaching initiatives, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of this extraordinary wilderness beyond reliance on government support.
